Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor in the East Midlands operating across Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Northampton and the surrounding areas, you'll take commercial responsibility for overseeing multiple, diverse construction projects throughout the region. Supported by Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial team members, you'll manage schemes around the £20m level across public and private sectors.

This chartered quantity surveyor job opportunity requires a background of working for a principal main contractor on projects of this type and size. You'll have genuine commercial autonomy, manage project profitability and contribute to business growth and team development.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor based in the East Midlands, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage commercial delivery across multiple construction projects worth up to £20m
  • Collate and present monthly project reports to senior leadership team
  • Update all costs across projects on a regular basis, ensuring accurate cost forecasting
  • Assist the commercial team with contractual expertise on JCT and NEC contracts
  • Assemble costs for forecasting in line with site budgets and cash flow management
  • Conduct valuations, manage variations and ensure accurate final account settlements
  • Lead procurement activities and manage subcontractor and supply chain relationships
  • Support junior members of the commercial team through mentoring and development
  • Ensure compliance with contract administration QS UK procedures and company governance
  • Liaise with clients, consultants and project teams to ensure successful commercial outcomes

Person

To be successful in this Senior Quantity Surveyor East Midlands job, you'll have proven experience working for a main contractor on projects high in value across the built environment.

The ideal candidate for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role in Nottingham, East Midlands will bring excellent commercial acumen, strong leadership capabilities and a track record of delivering construction projects on time and within budget.

  • Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or cost manager within a main contracting environment
  • Background working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 principal main contractor
  • Experience managing commercial delivery on projects worth £5m–£30m
  • Excellent man management skills with ability to lead and mentor junior team members
  • Strong and capable communicator at all levels with clients, consultants and supply chain
  • Contractually excellent knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
  • Variety of project and sector knowledge across education, healthcare, commercial or industrial
  • Well networked with subcontractors and supply chain partners in the region
  • Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills and build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Capable of delivering projects on time and to budget with strong commercial controls
  • Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • Working towards or achieved RICS QS chartered status is highly desirable
  • Based in (or willing to commute to) Nottingham and the Midlands region
