Our client is a leading regional main contractor, based in Nottingham, with a strong reputation for delivering complex construction schemes across both public and private sectors, with project values typically ranging from £1m to £30m.

Operating as a trusted construction partner, they deliver projects within education, healthcare, commercial and industrial environments, combining modern construction methods with traditional quality. This construction main contractor offers structured progression, local projects, and long-term career growth for their Quantity Surveyors and Commercial teams. You will have the chance to contribute to high-profile construction projects across the East and West Midlands.

Role

As a Quantity Surveyor in the Nottingham, you will work within an established Commercial Team, reporting directly to the Managing Surveyor. You’ll be responsible for the commercial delivery of multiple construction projects across the East Midlands, ensuring financial targets are achieved and client satisfaction maintained.

Projects are typically delivered under both NEC and JCT contracts, so experience across these frameworks is desirable.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will take ownership of interesting and varied projects, ensuring the most commercially viable outcomes while contributing to the continued growth of the business.

Responsibilities

As the Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for accurate and timely commercial reporting while supporting site and project delivery teams to achieve agreed financial outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing subcontractor procurement and performance to ensure best value.
  • Preparing and submitting interim and final payment applications, ensuring cash flow targets are met.
  • Update all costs across projects on a regular basis, ensuring accurate cost forecasting
  • Conducting profit and loss reporting and analysis for the Commercial Manager.
  • Providing commercial support to Contracts Managers and Operational Teams.
  • Preparing and reviewing cost estimates, material quantities and project timelines.
  • Ensuring all work complies with NEC and JCT contractual frameworks and company procedures.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.

Person

To be successful in this Quantity Surveyor job role, you will bring proven experience working for a Tier 1 or regional construction main contractor and demonstrate a strong understanding of commercial management within the built environment.

You will also be proactive, positive and confident communicating at all levels, with a strong ability to work independently as well as part of a close-knit commercial team.

Key requirements include:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
  • Excellent working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Experience working on Design & Build construction projects.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Positive, driven and team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across the East Midlands region.
  • Current or previous titles may include Quantity Surveyor, Project Quantity Surveyor, Project Surveyor etc.
