We're hiring a QMS Manager / Assistant to join our client and oversee the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of quality management systems across exciting construction projects throughout Derby. Based in Derby, our client is a well-established construction main contractor with over 50 years of proven delivery across the Midlands. They pride themselves on the quality of their work, delivering varied and interesting construction projects across the region. With a large portfolio of schemes, our client operates across MOD facilities, healthcare developments, MOJ projects, commercial builds, and industrial sectors, with the client at the focus of their approach.
Role
As a QMS Manager / Assistant in Derby, you'll be responsible for managing, maintaining, and continuously improving the company's Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO standards, client requirements, and industry regulations.
Working closely with operational teams, site managers, and senior leadership, you will help embed a culture of quality across the business while supporting project teams to achieve the highest standards of workmanship, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Operating across both office and site environments, you'll play a key role in driving quality performance and ensuring effective quality assurance processes are implemented throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities as a QMS Manager / Assistant will include:
- Managing and maintaining the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 standards
- Conducting regular internal audits across construction projects and business functions
- Monitoring compliance with quality procedures, processes, and documentation requirements
- Identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective and preventive actions
- Supporting project teams with quality inspections, audits, and site compliance activities
- Maintaining quality records and ensuring documentation is accurately completed and controlled
- Investigating quality issues, non-conformances, and customer complaints, driving effective resolutions
- Preparing quality reports and KPI data for senior management review
- Supporting external audits and accreditation assessments
- Providing quality training and guidance to employees and project teams
- Collaborating with operational and commercial teams to promote best practice and continuous improvement
- Ensuring quality processes align with business objectives, client expectations, and industry standards
Person
To succeed in this QMS Manager / Assistant job, you'll bring strong experience in quality management within the construction industry and a proactive approach to maintaining high standards across projects and business operations.
Essential
- Experience working within a Quality Management Systems role in the construction industry
- Knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- Experience conducting internal audits and managing corrective actions
- Ability to pass SC Clearance
- Strong knowledge of construction quality assurance processes and documentation
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to interpret standards, procedures, and technical documentation
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and document management systems
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider project teams
Desirable
- Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 9001)
- Experience working on projects valued between £5 million and £20 million
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
- Professional membership with CQI, CIOB, or a similar industry body
- Previous experience within a main contractor environment
- Experience working on healthcare, MOD, MOJ, commercial, or industrial construction projects
