Technical Operations Manager | External Wall Insulation & Building Envelope

As Technical Operations Manager, you will lead and oversee the delivery of a high-quality technical support function across the business, ensuring exceptional service to customers, specifiers, architects, installers, and internal stakeholders.

Working closely with the Directors and Senior Leadership Team, you will manage multiple technical departments, drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and certifications, and support the ongoing development of innovative building envelope solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to influence business strategy, lead specialist technical teams, and play a key role in the growth of a market-leading manufacturer operating within the external wall insulation, retrofit, and decarbonisation sectors.

RESPONSIBILITES

As a Technical Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the Technical Hub, Technical Services, and Laboratory/R&D teams.
  • Overseeing the delivery of technical support services to customers, installers, architects, designers, and internal departments.
  • Managing technical risk and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Overseeing the production of technical specifications, CAD drawings, BIM content, and project-specific detailing.
  • Managing product certification, testing programmes, quality control procedures, and technical approvals.
  • Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, PAS 2030/2035 requirements, NHBC standards, and third-party certifications.
  • Leading technical training programmes for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining and developing technical libraries, BIM resources, and document control systems.
  • Managing customer complaints, non-conformance procedures, and ISO 9001 compliance processes.
  • Attending site meetings and technical inspections where required.
  • Monitoring future industry trends, legislation changes, and product developments to ensure ongoing compliance and innovation.
  • Producing regular technical reports and board-level summaries for senior management.
  • Supporting the development and improvement of current and future product ranges.
  • Driving collaboration across technical, commercial, marketing, and operational teams.

PERSON

To be successful in this Technical Operations Manager role, you will bring a strong technical background, proven leadership capability, and experience managing multidisciplinary teams within the construction, façade, retrofit, or building envelope sectors.

ESSENTIAL

  • Degree qualified in Architectural Technology, Construction, or a related built environment discipline.
  • Proven experience operating within construction, retrofit, façade, cladding, or building technology environments.
  • Strong leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing technical teams.
  • Excellent understanding of construction methods, detailing, and technical compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, energy-efficiency standards, and associated technical requirements.
  • Experience managing technical support, specifications, or design functions.
  • Familiarity with CAD and BIM processes.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to align technical delivery to business objectives.
  • Strong organisational and reporting capabilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

DESIRABLE

  • PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 knowledge.
  • Retrofit, decarbonisation, or energy-efficiency project experience.
  • Cladding remediation or façade project experience.
  • Understanding of Building Safety Act requirements.
  • Experience within external wall insulation systems.
