Role
As a Chartered Building Surveyor, you will operate alongside a cohesive team of industry leading professionals at Anstey Horne and play a key role in managing instructions from inception through to completion, maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring high technical standards.
You will be offered a mixture of both traditional building surveying and project-based work, alongside management opportunities to truly become integral to the business.
Responsibilities
A Chartered Building Surveyor based in Birmingham, will be responsible for:
- Deliver a broad range of professional building consultancy services, including planned preventative maintenance, condition surveys, defect diagnosis, technical due diligence, contract administration, and reinstatement cost assessments (in collaboration with the cost consultancy team).
- Undertake and support dilapidations instructions, progressing towards leading claims, alongside providing defects consultancy, schedules of condition, and licences to alter reviews.
- Manage and contribute to project delivery across all stages, including design development, specification writing, tendering, and contract administration.
- Support fire safety and building safety remediation projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practice.
- Engage with and advise key stakeholders, maintaining clear communication and proactively seeking feedback to ensure instructions are delivered on time and to a high standard.
- Drive efficiency, transparency, and effective communication throughout project lifecycles, ensuring accurate and timely exchange of information.
- Build and maintain strong internal and external networks to support collaboration and generate new business opportunities.
- Produce high-quality, detailed reports and deliver clear, professional advice to clients.
- Provide support across the wider team on an ad hoc basis, responding flexibly to workload demands.
- Mentor and support the development of junior team members, contributing to knowledge sharing and team growth.
Person
A successful Chartered Building Surveyor for Anstey Horne will be aligned with the above job description in addition to:
- Holds a BSc (or equivalent) in Building Surveying or a related construction discipline.
- Chartered status (MRICS, MCABE, MCIOB) is required.
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in building surveying, with demonstrable expertise in defect diagnosis and building pathology.
- Proven experience in supporting project delivery, including design, specification writing, tendering, and contract administration.
- Experience across core service lines, including condition surveys, dilapidations, schedules of condition, and technical due diligence.
- Knowledge or experience of fire safety and building safety remediation projects is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate reports, negotiate settlements, and present findings effectively.
- Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and client-facing skills, capable of building strong working relationships.
- Collaborative approach with a willingness to contribute positively within a team environment and support colleagues where required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, with a willingness to travel in line with project requirements.
