The Role

As Technical Director in the East Midlands, you will sit at the heart of the Senior Management Team (SMT), taking strategic ownership of the Clerk of Works division. You will be responsible for the overall direction and profitability of Clerk of Works service delivery, managing key client accounts and leading continuous improvement across the team's quality management framework.

Responsibilities

As Technical Director - Clerk of Works, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the quality of Clerk of Works service delivery across the business and contributing to the strategic direction of the practice.
  • Acting as the lead for all Clerk of Works appointments, ensuring client satisfaction and scheme profitability.
  • Managing team resources and workloads effectively to consistently meet project requirements across multiple sectors.
  • Taking ownership of allocated Key Client Accounts, ensuring satisfaction with services and identifying new work opportunities.
  • Actively seeking new project opportunities and promoting the practice's services at networking and marketing events.
  • Leading the development and continuous improvement of management systems, ensuring KPIs are met and quality standards are upheld across all workstreams.
  • Training and developing the Clerk of Works team to maintain high levels of technical quality, including preparing and presenting in-house CPD events.
  • Working collaboratively with HR on recruitment processes and wider people management matters.

The Person

  • BSc (Hons) in a relevant construction, building, or surveying discipline.
  • Extensive Senior Management experience within a built environment organisation.
  • A wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, construction methods and legal requirements.
  • Proficiency in Quality Management Systems and a track record of driving continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience delivering large, complex construction projects to a high standard.
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational and team leadership skills with a commitment to developing others.
