Our client is a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong UK footprint and a respected presence in the West Midlands market. The business provides specialist cost consultancy, project advisory and employer’s agent services, supporting clients across a diverse mix of built environment, infrastructure and sustainable development projects.

The regional Quantity Surveying team is part of a wider national network, offering candidates the balance of a collaborative local office environment with the backing of a larger consultancy structure. The team works across commercial, residential, infrastructure and renewable energy schemes, with opportunities to contribute to varied, technically interesting projects from early feasibility through to completion.

Role

This Quantity Surveyor role based in Birmingham is suited to an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is Chartered or working towards Chartership. Reporting to an Associate Director, you will independently manage multiple projects at any one time, providing cost management and employer’s agent duties from tendering and pre-construction through to handover.

The workload will be predominantly across the West Midlands, with opportunities to support other regional teams where required. Contracts will be mainly JCT, with some NEC exposure, including current infrastructure-related work.

Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor based in Birmingham, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Independently managing 3-4 projects at a time from inception through to completion
  • Delivering quantity surveying, cost management and employer’s agent duties
  • Preparing cost plans, estimates, procurement advice and tender documentation
  • Managing tender processes, contractor appointments and contract administration duties
  • Working across predominantly JCT contracts, with exposure to NEC contracts where required
  • Supporting projects across commercial, residential, infrastructure and renewables sectors
  • Providing accurate reporting, cost control and commercial advice throughout the project lifecycle
  • Attending client meetings, site visits and project progress meetings
  • Coordinating with consultants, contractors and wider project stakeholders
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in line with agreed budgets, programmes and client expectations
  • Developing strong client relationships and identifying opportunities to add value
  • Supporting wider team development and contributing to a collaborative Birmingham QS team

Person

To be successful as a Quantity Surveyor in Birmingham, you will align with our requirements and bring:

  • 5 years+ experience within Quantity Surveying or Cost Consultancy
  • MRICS Chartered status, or nearing Chartership, would be highly desirable
  • Strong ability to independently run your own projects from inception to completion
  • Experience delivering employer’s agent duties
  • Strong knowledge of JCT contracts, with NEC experience advantageous
  • Experience in consultancy or main contractor environments
  • SC clearance, or the ability to obtain SC clearance
  • A high level of technical competence and commercial awareness
  • Professional, friendly and confident communication style
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Full UK driving licence

Remuneration
