ROLE
As a Project Manager within the Defence Sector team, you will support the delivery of a broad portfolio of capital investment projects for a Derbyshire-based client.
You will play a vital role in managing design teams, overseeing the delivery of key project milestones across all RIBA work stages, and contributing to successful programme, risk, and change management initiatives.
This role offers significant scope for professional growth within a high-performing team, contributing to some of the most strategically important defence infrastructure projects in the country.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities of the Defence Sector Project Manager include:
- Supporting large-scale contracts and capital projects within the overall Defence Sector Portfolio
- Day-to-day management of design teams and technical disciplines throughout project delivery
- Ownership and execution of core project management tasks across all RIBA stages
- Facilitating programme management, risk management, and change management activities
- Ensuring client satisfaction through proactive communication and quality delivery
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve shared goals and successful outcomes
PERSON
To be successful in this role, the ideal Project Manager should demonstrate:
- A proven track record of supporting major defence sector projects across multiple RIBA stages
- Experience leading aspects of design management or delivering post-contract services
- Ability to support and coordinate design teams and technical resource
- SC Level Security Clearance (or the ability to obtain it)
- Excellent client care, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Flexibility to travel with overnight stays where required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Common Data Environment (CDE) systems
Desirable attributes include:
- Associate membership with APM or equivalent
- Foundation-level Project Management qualifications such as PRINCE2 or APMQ
- Technical Degree in Engineering, Construction, or Earth Sciences disciplines
- Experience supporting procurement activities, public sector business case development, and tendering processes
- Familiarity with NEC3/NEC4 PSC or ECC contracts (both pre- and post-contract phases)
