An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially focused Principal Surveyor to join a growing in-house Estates Team based in Nottingham. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior property professional seeking a leadership role within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment, delivering high-quality estates, valuation, and property management services across a varied public and commercial portfolio.

This role is ideal for an ambitious Chartered Surveyor who enjoys combining technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, strategic asset management, and client advisory services across a diverse property estate.

Role

As Principal Surveyor, you will take a lead role in delivering professional valuation, estate management, and strategic property advice across a broad and diverse portfolio. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert guidance on acquisitions, disposals, landlord & tenant matters, asset valuations, and general estate management, while also supporting and mentoring a wider team of property professionals.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a senior Chartered Surveyor seeking to further develop their leadership profile within a technically strong and commercially driven environment.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Surveyor, your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Deliver estate management, valuation, and professional surveying services across a diverse property portfolio.
  • Manage a varied asset base including offices, industrial units, schools, libraries, museums, residential homes, day centres, depots, and agricultural assets.
  • Undertake capital accounting asset valuations and commercial property valuations.
  • Prepare insurance reinstatement cost assessments.
  • Manage landlord & tenant matters including lease renewals, rent reviews, licences, and tenancy negotiations.
  • Negotiate acquisitions and disposals of land and property assets.
  • Conduct financial viability appraisals and general estate management functions.
  • Prepare and serve statutory and contractual notices where required.
  • Instruct and liaise with solicitors through to legal completion of transactions.
  • Attend property viewings with prospective purchasers or tenants.
  • Coordinate with building surveyors, engineers, and other technical consultants.
  • Negotiate dilapidation claims, settlements, and associated payments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, and internal procedures.

Person

The successful candidate for this Principal Surveyor role will have:

  • Degree in Property, Real Estate, Surveying, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Qualified member of RICS.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in estates management and valuation.
  • Registered Valuer status.
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning systems and property law.
  • Proven experience in valuations and estate management.
  • Experience negotiating acquisitions and disposals of land and property.
  • Experience negotiating leases, licences, and tenancy agreements.
  • Strong landlord & tenant knowledge including dilapidations.
  • Strong understanding of RICS valuation standards and relevant legislation.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working within a public sector property or estates environment.

Remuneration

  • Highly attractive salary £50,000 - £55,000 (depending on experience)
