Tough To Talk

Supporting Tough to Talk: Our Chosen Charity for Another Year

Why Tough to Talk Is So Important to Us

At Atkins Search, we are proud to announce that for a second consecutive year, we are continuing our partnership with Tough to Talk as our Charity of the Year.
Tough to Talk is a vital organisation dedicated to supporting men’s mental health a cause that resonates deeply within our business and the wider construction and built environment sectors we serve. The charity offers confidential support to men who may be struggling, helping to break down barriers and challenge the stigma surrounding mental health conversations.

In an industry where high-pressure environments and demanding work can often take a hidden toll, supporting this cause is more important than ever.

Mental Health in UK Construction: The Statistics

Four in five suicides are by men, with suicide the biggest cause of death for men under 35 (source: UK Parliament).

In 2020, workers in construction were at some of the highest risk of suicide in the country, at 3.7 times higher than the national average (source: Office for National Statistics).

Over half of all UK employees (and notably 57% of Millennials) do not feel comfortable disclosing mental health or psychological conditions (source: Reed).

A report by the Chartered Institute of Building found that 26% of construction industry professionals thought about taking their own lives in 2019 and 56% of construction professionals work for organisations with no policies on mental health in the workplace.

Celebrating a Record-Breaking Fundraising Year

We are delighted to share that in our last financial year, we raised a phenomenal £3,467 for Tough to Talk, which is a record-breaking achievement for Atkins Search!
Thanks to the unwavering generosity, commitment, and passion of our team, clients, and wider network, we’ve helped make a real difference in supporting the charity’s crucial mission.

It’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud of, but we believe there’s still much more we can do.

Our Ambitious Goal for the Year Ahead

Building on the momentum from last year, we are setting our sights even higher for this financial year.
Our ambitious target is to raise £5,000 for Tough to Talk so we can fund even more resources, support, and awareness for a cause that’s close to our hearts.

Throughout the year, we’ll be hosting fundraising activities, charity events, and awareness campaigns, and we’re calling on our amazing community to join us on this journey.

Why Mental Health Matters in Construction Recruitment

As a specialist recruitment partner within the construction, consultancy, and engineering sectors, we understand the unique pressures professionals in our industry face daily. Long hours, high-risk environments, and the demanding nature of construction projects can severely impact mental health if left unaddressed.

By supporting Tough to Talk, we’re helping to champion better mental health support within construction and encouraging vital conversations that could ultimately save lives.

It’s about creating a safer, healthier future for everyone working across the built environment.
