Role
As a Senior Estimator, you will play a key role within the preconstruction team, leading tendering activities and cost planning for construction projects across the North West. Based in central Liverpool, this is an excellent senior estimator vacancy for an ambitious estimator ready to influence bid strategies and support regional business growth.
You'll have the opportunity to establish best practice estimating procedures, develop supplier relationships and shape the preconstruction function from the ground up. This senior construction estimator role requires strategic thinking and strong stakeholder management to coordinate complex tender submissions and cost evaluations.
As the first estimator into the newly developed region, you'll work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to build the preconstruction capability and secure high-value construction projects.
Responsibilities
As Senior Estimator in Liverpool, your responsibilities will include:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and manage tender evaluations to ensure accuracy and competitiveness
- Analyse project requirements, specifications and drawings to identify risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions
- Oversee subcontractor and supplier enquiries to obtain competitive quotations and ensure value for money
- Collaborate closely with preconstruction and project delivery teams to develop robust bid strategies and tender submissions
- Lead quantity takeoff activities using specialist estimating software and digital measurement tools
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, materials pricing and labour costs across construction sector developments in the North West
- Support post-tender negotiations and provide detailed cost breakdowns as required
- Conduct site visits and attend pre-tender meetings to assess project feasibility and construction methodology
- Build and maintain relationships with supply chain partners
- Mentor junior estimators as the preconstruction team grows and develops
Person
To be successful in this senior estimator job, you will bring significant experience leading cost estimation and tender management within a construction main contractor environment.
- Demonstrable experience as a Construction Estimator, Senior Estimator or Cost Estimator within the construction industry
- Ideally from a main contractor background with framework experience and exposure to public sector tendering
- Strong knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts, construction processes, procurement routes and industry best practices
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Proficient in using estimating software, quantity takeoff tools (such as CostX or Conquest) and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams
- Commercial awareness and understanding of construction cost planning, budget management and value engineering
Relevant qualifications such as HNC/HND in Construction, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management are highly desirable. RICS affiliation or working towards professional accreditation would be advantageous.
