Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility for a new-build care home scheme in Doncaster, working independently whilst reporting to the Commercial Director. This main contractor quantity surveyor role is based from the Mansfield office with regular construction site visits, supported by a collaborative team who value individuals that take ownership and proactively drive construction projects forward.
If workload and construction project timelines allow, you may also be involved in additional schemes across the Midlands region, depending on progress and capacity.
Responsibilities
Your quantity surveyor responsibilities will include:
- Take off building quantities and produce comprehensive schedules of work for construction projects
- Formulate subcontract tenders, chair pre-let meetings, and finalise subcontract orders using quantity surveyor expertise
- Manage subcontractors commercially, ensuring contractual compliance and effective communication throughout construction phases
- Work collaboratively with internal and external teams to drive construction project success across Nottingham and Midlands sites
- Analyse and interpret Bills of Quantities, construction drawings, and contract documents for major projects
- Issue and manage commercial elements of construction contracts, including valuations, final accounts, and relevant contractual notices
- Attend design team meetings and contribute to pre-construction planning using quantity surveyor commercial knowledge
- Provide on-site commercial support, ensuring regular presence to monitor construction progress and resolve commercial issues
- Support the construction site team with day-to-day commercial tasks and ensure alignment across all project departments

We are looking to speak with well-rounded, proactive Quantity Surveyors with a strong track record of managing construction projects for main contractors. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, commercially astute, and thrive in a fast-paced, team-focused construction environment.

- Experience working with a main contractor in the construction industry
- Proven experience delivering Design & Build construction projects under JCT D&B contracts
- Experience managing construction projects valued £2M–£10M as a quantity surveyor
- Strong ability to manage subcontractors and commercial packages independently
- Capable of both office-based and construction site-based working (Mansfield HQ and Doncaster construction site)
- Comfortable taking the lead commercially on construction projects and making key commercial decisions
- Experience in the care sector construction is advantageous but not essential for this quantity surveyor role
