Role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial delivery of multiple construction projects across the East Midlands. You’ll take full responsibility for cost management, contract administration, and client-facing duties, ensuring successful financial outcomes from inception through to final account.
You’ll work closely with directors and clients, providing strategic commercial advice while also supporting and mentoring junior surveyors within the team. This role offers exposure to a wide range of sectors and projects, with a focus on delivering excellence under both JCT and NEC contract frameworks.
Based in Leicester with hybrid working available, you will also attend regional project sites as required.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading post-contract cost management and commercial delivery across multiple projects
- Preparing and managing valuations, variations, and contractor payment processes
- Administering contracts under JCT and NEC forms with minimal supervision
- Managing project budgets, cash flow forecasting, and financial reporting
- Negotiating and agreeing final accounts with contractors and subcontractors
- Acting as a key client contact, providing strategic commercial advice
- Leading procurement processes including tender preparation, analysis, and contractor selection
- Attending and chairing project meetings, client briefings, and stakeholder reviews
- Overseeing project performance and ensuring commercial targets are achieved
- Mentoring and supporting Assistant and Intermediate Quantity Surveyors
- Contributing to business development and maintaining strong client relationships
- Supporting continuous improvement and best practice across the QS team
Person
To be successful in this Senior Quantity Surveyor role in Leicester, you should demonstrate:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
- Ideally chartered status (MRICS) or working towards it
- Significant experience (typically 5+ years) within consultancy or contractor environments
- Strong post-contract experience across residential and/or commercial sectors
- Proven experience managing projects independently
- In-depth knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
- Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Leadership ability with experience mentoring junior team members
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Proficiency in cost management software
- Full UK driving licence (preferred for regional travel)
