Atkins Search are recruiting for a Health & Safety Advisor in Nottingham to join an established, award-winning construction main contractor with a strong presence in the Midlands. This is a full-time, permanent position offering exposure across diverse, high-value projects and the autonomy to manage your own workload and diary, with nationwide travel required.

Our client is a financially robust, well-respected construction main contractor with a strong presence across Nottingham and the East Midlands. Known for collaborative working practices, they maintain trusted relationships with subcontractors and clients to deliver high-quality schemes safely, on time, and within budget.
Their diverse project portfolio spans commercial, education, leisure, and healthcare sectors, combining traditional construction delivery with modern safety standards and sustainability frameworks. Following two years of consistent growth, they are expanding their Health & Safety function and are looking to appoint an experienced advisor to support projects nationally.
Role
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will play a key role in promoting and maintaining a positive health, safety, and wellbeing culture across multiple construction sites.
You will work closely with site, operational, and commercial teams, providing expert advice and ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies. This role offers the flexibility to manage your own diary and requires travel to projects across the UK.
Responsibilities
As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will:
- Promote a proactive health & safety culture across all sites
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Ensure compliance with current HSE legislation and company standards
- Provide guidance and support to site teams and subcontractors
- Assist in the preparation and review of method statements and risk assessments (RAMS)
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, producing reports and recommendations
- Deliver toolbox talks and training where required
- Liaise with external bodies including HSE inspectors and auditors
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business
Person
To be successful in this Health & Safety Advisor role in Nottingham, you will have proven experience within the construction industry, although your background can come from a range of sectors (e.g. main contracting, subcontracting, civil engineering, or fit-out).
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
- Experience working within a construction environment
- Strong working knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage your own diary
- Willingness to travel nationally as part of the role
- Proactive, organised, and solution-focused approach
- Current or previous roles: H&S Advisor / HSE Advisor / Health & Safety Officer
