We're recruiting a Head of Safety, Health and Environment in Nottinghamshire to lead the development and delivery of a best-in-class SHE strategy across a multidisciplinary built environment organisation and its wider group of subsidiaries. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering a highly competitive salary of £65,000–£75,000, a generous car allowance, and the chance to make a genuine enterprise-wide impact across a purpose-led organisation.

Our client is a well-established, multidisciplinary built environment organisation operating as part of a wider public sector group, providing services across procurement, design, construction, property management, and regeneration. Role
As Head of Safety, Health and Environment based in Nottinghamshire, you will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer and take strategic ownership of the organisation's Safety, Health and Environmental Management System across the group and its subsidiaries. You will lead a dedicated SHE team, drive a positive safety-first culture, and act as the principal expert on CDM regulations, ISO standards, and occupational health and safety compliance across the business.

Responsibilities
As Head of Safety, Health and Environment in Nottinghamshire, your responsibilities will include:
- Developing, implementing, and continuously improving the organisation's Safety, Health and Environmental Management System in line with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and CDM Regulations
- Leading and managing the SHE team, providing specialist support, advice, and professional guidance across the wider group and its subsidiaries
- Developing and monitoring an annual Safety, Health and Environmental Action Plan, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer
- Driving a positive, behavioural safety culture across the group based on continuous improvement, collaboration, and learning
- Guiding and monitoring CDM duty holders including Principal Designers, Designers, Principal Contractors, and Contractors
- Leading on SHE risk management within the group's Risk and Opportunity Registers
- Leading effective accident and incident investigations, embedding lessons learnt across the group's management systems
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders including regulatory bodies, enforcement bodies, supply chain organisations, and wider industry forums
- Leading the SHE Steering Group and producing management reporting and audit outcomes against the group's SHE Management System
- Coaching, mentoring, and developing safety, health, and environmental leadership competence and capability across the group and its subsidiaries
Person Specification
To be successful in this Head of Safety, Health and Environment role in Nottinghamshire, you will bring significant senior-level experience in SHE leadership within the construction or built environment sector.
- NEBOSH Diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in Safety, Health and Environment
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional body: CMIOSH or Association for Project Safety preferred
- Proven experience in a senior Health and Safety leadership role within the construction sector
- Thorough working knowledge of CDM legislation and its practical application across complex programmes
- Significant experience working to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 accredited standards within a business-wide SHE management system
- Demonstrable experience devising and implementing SHE policies, processes, and procedures at an enterprise level
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and engage across all levels of an organisation and with external stakeholders
- A collaborative, proactive leadership style with a genuine commitment to embedding a positive safety culture
Remuneration

- Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 (dependent on experience)
