Our client is an established construction contractor operating across Derby and the wider Midlands, delivering a diverse portfolio of construction, electrical, mechanical, fit-out and refurbishment projects.

They work with repeat clients across commercial, industrial and public-sector environments and have built a strong reputation for accurate cost planning, collaborative delivery and consistent project performance. Their estimating team plays a key role in winning work and shaping project success from the outset.

As an Estimator, you will play a central role in pricing and securing projects across multiple sectors. This role suits an all-round Construction Estimator with experience in main contracting, subcontracting and refurbishment environments, including exposure to electrical estimator jobs and mechanical estimating.

You’ll support key client accounts, prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and contribute to bid strategy, risk assessment and value engineering. This is a client-facing estimator job requiring strong commercial awareness and the ability to price works confidently across varying project sizes.

As an Estimator in Derby, your responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing project drawings, specifications and scopes to fully understand requirements
• Preparing accurate cost estimates for construction, electrical, mechanical, fit-out and refurbishment projects
• Pricing labour, materials, prelims and equipment in line with current market conditions
• Undertaking site visits with clients to assess project constraints and opportunities
• Engaging with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
• Identifying commercial risks and value opportunities within tenders
• Acting as the main point of contact for key clients, attending meetings and presenting estimates
• Supporting tender submissions across a range of construction estimator jobs

Looking Forward

• Supporting and mentoring junior estimators within the team
• Contributing to continuous improvement of estimating systems, tools and processes

To be successful in this Estimator job in Derby, you will demonstrate:

• Proven experience working as an Estimator, Electrical Estimator or Construction Estimator
• A strong track record of pricing and winning work across fit-out and refurbishment projects
• The ability to work accurately under pressure and meet tight bid deadlines
• Commercial awareness with the confidence to identify risks and opportunities
• Experience operating within main contractor or specialist subcontractor environments
• Proficiency in estimating software such as ConQuest, Bluebeam and Excel
• Strong knowledge of UK construction methods, regulations and procurement routes
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational skills with a proactive, methodical approach
• Experience managing subcontractor databases and estimating management systems
