Role

As a Site Engineer or Divisional Engineer, you'll work alongside the design and technical teams who are involved in all aspects of housing design, innovation and material research. Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Technical Director, you'll be responsible for overseeing the design of infrastructure and groundworks packages for residential developments, ensuring compliance with building regulations, adoption agreements and best practice in value engineering.

Responsibilities

As a Site Engineer in York, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Procure service records and manage enquiries for new developments, including responsibility for timely payment of new services infrastructure to support build programmes and project delivery milestones.
  • Oversee the design and detailing carried out by externally appointed consulting engineers responsible for providing designs for all external works, including foundation solutions, new estate roads and sewers.
  • Secure adoption agreements including Section 38, Section 104 and Section 278 agreements in a timely manner to suit the development programme, ensuring bonds are put in place, reduced and extinguished efficiently.
  • Have input into securing structural designs for superstructure components, working with structural consultants and technical coordinators.
  • Maintain a continuous process of evaluation and peer review of consultant designs to ensure proposals adhere to best practice in value engineering, cost planning and statutory compliance.
  • Liaise with technical team members, building control and local authorities to seek the discharge of building regulations and planning conditions across residential construction projects.
  • Coordinate with highway authorities, sewerage undertakers and statutory bodies to ensure infrastructure designs meet approval requirements and adoption standards.

Person

To be successful in this Site Engineer job in York, you will bring significant experience working within a residential or new build construction environment, ideally with exposure to civil or structural consulting engineers.

  • Educated to HNC/HND level in an engineering-related discipline such as civil engineering, structural engineering or construction engineering.
  • Previous experience in a design-related environment, preferably with civil or structural consulting engineers or within a technical design coordination role.
  • Ability to confidently handle negotiations with external bodies, including sewerage undertakers, highway authorities and adoption bodies.
  • Strong coordination skills to work effectively with all members of the design team, ensuring development programmes are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Computer literate with experience of design software packages such as Autodesk product set.
  • PDS or Microdrainage experience desirable although not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence essential for visiting developments across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts, Section 38 highways adoption, Section 104 sewers adoption and building regulations approval processes is highly desirable for this technical engineer position.
