Design Manager

Atkins Search are recruiting for a Design Manager / Design Coordinator to join a well-established and growing construction contractor based in Derbyshire.

Due to continued success and an expanding project portfolio, our client is seeking either an experienced Design Manager or a Design Coordinator looking to take the next step in their career. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the design process from planning approval through to construction commencement across a diverse range of projects, including social housing developments and residential schemes valued up to £10 million.

As a Design Manager / Design Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the design process from planning approval and contract execution through to site commencement.

Working closely with internal departments, external consultants, statutory bodies and key project stakeholders, you will ensure that all technical information is coordinated, approved and delivered in line with programme requirements, client expectations and project budgets.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering projects valued at up to £10 million, with a particular focus on social housing and residential developments.

• Liaise with planning teams and stakeholders throughout key planning stages.
• Appoint, manage and coordinate external design consultants.
• Organise and manage surveys, testing and technical reports required to support project delivery.
• Coordinate and review construction drawings and technical information.
• Chair and record Design Team Meetings.
• Work closely with Commercial Teams to ensure designs remain within budget parameters.
• Coordinate planning submissions and the discharge of planning conditions.
• Manage the flow of information throughout the design and pre-construction phases.
• Review design proposals to ensure compliance with client requirements and current regulations.
• Identify and implement value engineering opportunities.
• Manage Section Agreements and statutory approval processes.
• Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and associated designer responsibilities.
• Coordinate handover of design information from pre-construction to operational delivery teams.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures and quality standards.

• Relevant qualification in Construction, Architecture, Architectural Technology or a related discipline.
• Previous experience within a Design Manager, Design Coordinator or similar role.
• Social housing experience is preferred.
• Experience working on construction projects valued up to £10 million.
• Strong understanding of construction design processes and project delivery.
• Knowledge of planning procedures, Building Regulations and technical compliance requirements.
• Understanding of fire safety, acoustic requirements and SAP calculations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational ability.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of project budgets.
• Experience working for a Main Contractor would be advantageous.
