Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Northampton, you'll support the commercial and contractual management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account stage. You'll work closely with senior surveyors across both office and site locations, contributing to project delivery while developing your skills in cost management, contract administration, and stakeholder liaison.

Responsibilities
Your responsibilities as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor will include:
- Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects
- Support the preparation and issue of tender documentation, and assist in evaluating contractor bids
- Assist with contract administration under JCT and NEC frameworks
- Support procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
- Help monitor project costs, producing regular cost reports for senior surveyors and management
- Assist in identifying and reporting potential cost overruns or risks
- Support the assessment and pricing of contract variations
- Assist with management of subcontractor packages
- Contribute to the preparation of final accounts and cost reports
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
Person
To succeed in this Assistant Quantity Surveyor job, you’ll ideally have some experience or a placement within the construction industry and be looking to develop your career in quantity surveying.
Essential:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification (RICS-accredited preferred or working towards)
- 6–24 months’ experience in a quantity surveying role or relevant industry placement
- Basic understanding of construction methods and cost management tools such as CostX or Conquest
- Ability to pass SC Clearance
- Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts (academic or practical)
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Working towards RICS, CIOB or other professional membership
- Proficiency in MS Excel and other project tools
- Exposure to healthcare, education or commercial construction projects
