We’re hiring an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a new build regional contractors based in Nottingham. You’ll support the delivery of commercial & residential projects across East Midlands and Sheffield, with future opportunities to progress onto further exciting schemes across Nottinghamshire and the wider Midlands.

You’ll be joining a collaborative, people focused team that prioritises long term partnerships, professional development and excellence in project delivery.

The Role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the Senior Quantity Surveyor and wider commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of live projects from procurement to final accounts.

You’ll gain hands on experience in cost planning, subcontractor management and contract administration, with structured mentoring to help you progress toward becoming a fully independent QS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with cost planning, valuations and cost reporting for live projects.
  • Support the procurement and management of subcontractors, ensuring best value and compliance.
  • Help administer JCT contracts, tracking variations, payments and project costs.
  • Carry out site visits (approx. 2 days per week) to monitor progress and support project delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, forecasts and reports.
  • Contribute to commercial meetings with project teams and supply chain partners.
  • Promote continuous improvement, cost efficiency and value engineering across projects.

The Person

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring enthusiasm, attention to detail and a willingness to learn within a fast-paced environment.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience as a Trainee or Assistant Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor (2+ years).
  • Understanding of JCT contracts and basic contract administration.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication, organisation and analytical skills.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a desire to progress.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential for regular site visits).
