This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior QS or Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS preferred) to join a forward-thinking consultancy delivering high-quality cost management services across healthcare, student accommodation, leisure and local authority schemes throughout Birmingham and the wider UK.

ROLE

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor in Birmingham, you will take a leading role in managing multiple commissions, delivering cost management services and supporting long-term client relationships from pre-contract through to final account.

You will be responsible for both pre- and post-contract delivery, including cost planning, contract administration and procurement, whilst mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to business development across the Birmingham region and wider UK.

This cost manager role will suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Chartered Senior QS who enjoys a blend of technical delivery, client engagement and commercial responsibility. You'll have the authority to lead cost consultancy services on complex schemes with national visibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor employed by our client, your duties will include:

  • Lead the delivery of cost management services across a varied portfolio of construction projects
  • Manage pre- and post-contract duties including cost planning, tendering, procurement and final accounting
  • Provide clear, strategic cost advice and cost estimating to clients at all project stages
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, tender evaluations and contract administration under JCT and NEC contracts
  • Conduct cost planning and value engineering exercises to ensure projects remain within budget
  • Manage quantity takeoff, bills of quantities and cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle
  • Build, maintain and expand strong client and stakeholder relationships across the Midlands
  • Identify new opportunities and support work winning activity including tender response and bid writing
  • Develop and manage key accounts to secure repeat business and long-term client partnerships
  • Support, mentor and develop junior quantity surveying team members
  • Uphold professional standards and best practice in line with RICS guidance and RICS QS competencies
  • Work from the Birmingham office 3 days per week, with 2 days working from home
  • Manage your own working pattern with complete flexibility around hours

PERSON

To be successful in this Senior Quantity Surveyor job in Birmingham, you will bring significant experience working within a construction consultancy or cost management environment.

The ideal Senior Quantity Surveyor will demonstrate:

  • MRICS-qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyor or working towards chartership with significant senior-level experience
  • Proven consultancy experience, ideally 4+ years in a similar cost manager or Senior QS role
  • Strong track record delivering construction projects in sectors such as healthcare, student accommodation, leisure or public sector schemes
  • Strong understanding of cost management, procurement and contract administration under JCT and NEC contracts
  • Experience with cost planning, quantity takeoff, tender evaluation and final account procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills for stakeholder management
  • Commercial awareness with confidence in client interface and work winning activities
  • Ability to develop long-term relationships with clients and contractors and secure repeat business
  • Full UK driving licence for visiting sites across Birmingham and the wider Midlands region
  • RICS-accredited with commitment to continuing professional development

REMUNERATION

Our client offers a competitive salary of £55,000 - £70,000 (DOE) and an excellent benefits package including:
