My client is an established, independent consultancy within the built environment, delivering projects across sectors such as residential, education, healthcare, leisure, and commercial. Role

As a Quantity Surveyor based in Manchester, you will take the lead on delivering projects from inception through to completion, managing full commercial responsibility including cost planning, procurement, and contract administration to ensure successful delivery. You will also act in an Employer’s Agent capacity, overseeing contract execution, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring client objectives are achieved across the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor based in Manchester, your role will include:

  • Deliver full pre and post contract quantity surveying services across a range of projects.
  • Lead and manage projects independently from inception to completion, ensuring delivery against programme, budget, and quality objectives
  • Take full responsibility for cost management services, including tendering, cost planning, estimating, procurement, and financial reporting
  • Administer and manage contracts (primarily JCT), ensuring compliance, effective risk management, and successful project delivery throughout the lifecycle
  • Act as Employer’s Agent on designated projects, managing contractual obligations, coordinating stakeholders, and driving outcomes in line with client requirements
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key point of contact and trusted advisor
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while taking ownership of responsibilities where appropriate.

Person

To be successful in this Quantity Surveyor role in Manchester, you will bring significant experience working for a consultancy. Key requirements you should have are:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline.
  • MRICS Chartered Surveyor (or actively working towards chartership).
  • Proven experience in residential sector (Essential).
  • Strong working knowledge of JCT contracts.
  • Employers Agent experience (Essential).
  • Proven experience using CostX or similar quantity surveying software to carry out take-offs, cost planning, and data analysis efficiently.
  • Able to operate both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to interrogate costs and provide clear advice.
  • Organised, self-sufficient, and able to manage priorities effectively.
