Role
As a Quantity Surveyor in Northampton, you'll manage the commercial and contractual elements of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account stage. You'll work across office and site locations, supporting project delivery whilst developing your skills in cost management, contract administration and stakeholder liaison.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with solid grounding in quantity surveying to step up and contribute to successful project outcomes on high-value construction schemes across the region.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities as a Quantity Surveyor will include:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Issue tender documentation, review contractor bids and assist in selecting suppliers and subcontractors
- Administer contracts under JCT and NEC frameworks
- Support procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
- Monitor project costs throughout construction, providing regular cost reports to senior management and clients
- Identify and report potential cost overruns or financial risks
- Assess and price contract variations, ensuring proper documentation and approval
- Manage subcontractor packages
- Assist in preparing final accounts and cost reports at project completion
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders
Person
To succeed in this Quantity Surveyor job, you'll bring solid experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry, ideally working on projects valued between £5 million and £20 million.
Essential:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification (RICS-accredited preferred)
- At least 2-4 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction
- Strong working knowledge of construction methods and cost management software such as CostX or Conquest
- Ability to pass a SC Clearance
- Sound understanding of JCT and NEC contracts and their practical application
- Solid grasp of commercial principles including cost control, procurement and risk management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail, particularly in contract documentation and financial reporting
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Desirable:
- RICS, CIOB or other relevant professional membership (or working towards chartered status)
- Proficiency in MS Project, Excel and other project management tools
- Experience on healthcare, education or commercial construction projects
