Quantity Surveyor
OVERVIEW
Atkins Search are recruiting for a driven and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the growing Commercial team of a leading construction business based in Derby, with regular travel to sites across the Midlands and the North. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, managing 1–3 jobs at a time and playing a key role in the financial success of each.
This position is ideal for a commercially astute professional who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and is looking for long-term development within a dynamic and thriving construction group.

ROLE
As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of live projects, typically handling 1–3 schemes concurrently. Your role will involve full commercial ownership from procurement to final account, working closely with operatives, subcontractors, and clients. You will be primarily based in the Derby office with regular site visits (1–2 times per week depending on project needs).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage applications for payment and ensure timely value recovery from Main Contractors
- Weekly or fortnightly labour bookings and valuation of price work operatives/gangs
- Accurate project pricing and agreement of financial terms with clients
- Maintain robust commercial control of subcontracts
- Monitor and manage project risk, identify early warning signs, and implement mitigations
- Produce monthly cost-value reconciliations and internal reports
- Handle subcontract clauses to avoid and defend against contra-charges
- Support and implement company-wide process improvements and initiatives
- Person
- Experience in a subcontracting environment is essential
- Strong knowledge of labour booking, on-site measuring, material ordering, and payment verification
- Skilled communicator and negotiator
- Able to work independently and maintain a regular on-site presence
- A proactive mindset with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and process
