Role
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor in Bristol, you will lead the commercial function for a £65 million industrial development in Avonmouth. Working with a commercial team, you will ensure robust financial management, cost control and client satisfaction are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
This is an excellent quantity surveying opportunity for an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor or cost manager to step into a Managing QS role, leading commercial strategy on high-value construction schemes with national visibility.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor in Bristol, your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead full commercial management of the £65m contract from pre-construction through to final account and handover.
- Manage contract variations, change control and commercial correspondence under JCT and NEC contracts.
- Lead CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations), forecasting and financial reporting to senior leadership and clients.
- Oversee subcontract procurement, tender evaluations, variations and final accounts for construction packages.
- Drive commercial strategy and cost planning to maximise project profitability and minimise risk exposure.
- Ensure compliance with RICS standards, contract administration processes and internal governance requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors at varying levels.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Support post-project reviews and contribute to continuous improvement across the commercial function.
Person
To be successful in this Senior Quantity Surveyor job in Bristol, you will bring significant experience working within a main contracting construction environment on high-value industrial or commercial projects.
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor or cost manager within the construction industry.
- Strong background in industrial shed projects, warehousing, logistics buildings or large-scale commercial developments.
- Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts, with experience managing variations and final accounts.
- Previous experience managing high-value construction projects (£30m+) ideally within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to develop and manage a commercial team.
- Proactive, commercially astute and confident in client-facing situations and stakeholder management.
- Full UK driving licence essential for visiting sites across the South West and Bristol region.
- RICS accreditation (MRICS) or working towards chartership is highly desirable.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Construction-related discipline preferred.
