Atkins Search are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join a well-established, growing main contractor based in Derby. As an Estimator, you will play a key role in pre-construction and tendering, working closely with the Pre-Construction Manager and wider commercial team to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for a wide range of building projects.

This is a hands-on, client-facing position with real autonomy and involvement across the full tender process - from early engagement to final submission.

• Prepare cost estimates and tender submissions for design & build and traditional build projects
• Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Produce detailed bills of quantities and take-offs
• Source and manage subcontractor and supplier quotes
• Work collaboratively with the operations, commercial and design teams
• Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings
• Assist with tender risk assessments and value engineering options
• Support with post-tender negotiations and handover to delivery teams

The ideal candidate for this Estimator role will have previous experience working for a main contractor, ideally on a mix of new build and refurbishment schemes. You'll be detail-oriented, commercially aware and confident working independently or as part of a team.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Estimator with a main contractor
• Strong knowledge of construction methods and building regulations
• Experience in producing estimates and take-offs from first principles
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines
• Knowledge of JCT / D&B contracts preferred
• Based in (or willing to commute to) Nottingham and surrounding areas
