ROLE

As a Civil Engineering Estimator in Derby, you will play a key role in the preparation and submission of competitive tenders and cost estimates. You'll be responsible for liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and commercially sound proposals for construction projects across Derby and the surrounding areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Civil Engineering Estimator in Derby, your responsibilities will include:

  • Review enquiry documentation and identify any contractual risks or special conditions
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and formal tender submissions in line with internal procedures
  • Attend internal review meetings and finalise tender submissions
  • Visit project sites across Derby to assess access, local conditions and potential risks
  • Liaise with clients to fully understand project requirements and cost planning expectations
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify suitable construction methods and drive competitiveness
  • Identify and engage reliable subcontractors for specialist work packages
  • Obtain quotations for materials and plant hire
  • Calculate rates and compile cost summaries, including site overheads
  • Prepare resourced programmes in line with cost summaries and construction delivery timelines
  • Assist in the review of contract documentation upon award
  • Support the handover process to project teams and site-based project leads

PERSON

The successful Civil Engineering Estimator will demonstrate strong estimating experience within the construction industry. You should be confident working independently on tenders, have excellent attention to detail and possess strong commercial awareness with cost planning expertise.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Construction Estimator, Senior Estimator or Assistant Estimator within construction, ideally within civil engineering, utilities or main contracting
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods, contract terms and cost estimation processes
  • Strong analytical, numerical and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders and construction cost planning simultaneously
  • Proficiency in estimating software, quantity takeoff tools and Microsoft Office
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to quality and safety
  • Full UK driving licence for site visits across Derby and surrounding areas
  • Knowledge of pre-construction estimator practices and build cost estimation methods

REMUNERATION
