Role

As Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing competitive, accurate tenders for a range of new-build construction projects, with a focus on care homes, social housing and commercial developments. Based at the company’s Mansfield head office, you will work closely with the Pre-Construction and Commercial teams to deliver high-quality bids that secure profitable projects and support the company’s ongoing growth.

You’ll be involved in tenders across the Midlands region and will play a key role in early contractor engagement, liaising with clients, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders throughout the pre-construction phase.

Responsibilities

Your Estimator responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for new-build construction projects
  • Interpret drawings, specification and contract documents to produce competitive bids
  • Prepare take-offs, bills of quantities, and detailed pricing schedules
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations and evaluate best value
  • Support the bid process with technical and commercial input, ensuring alignment with client requirements
  • Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings with clients and consultants
  • Contribute to risk assessments and value engineering exercises during the pre-construction phase
  • Collaborate with the Pre-Construction and Design teams to develop winning strategies for tender submissions
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market rates and trends to inform competitive pricing
  • Ensure all estimating documentation is prepared in line with company procedures and deadlines

Person

We are looking to speak with well-rounded, proactive Estimators with a strong track record of preparing bids for main contractors. The ideal candidate will be commercially aware, technically knowledgeable and able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced pre-construction environment.

  • Experience working with a main contractor in the construction industry
  • Proven experience estimating Design & Build projects under JCT D&B contracts
  • Experience preparing tenders for projects valued £2M–£10M
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and procurement processes
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills for dealing with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Experience in the care or social housing sector is advantageous but not essential
  • Enthusiastic, collaborative, and solutions-focused approach to pre-construction
