As a Design Manager in Manchester, you'll manage the complete design process from concept through to construction, ensuring designs are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. You'll coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors and clients to maintain seamless communication and alignment across all design-related activities.

Your responsibilities as a Construction Design Manager will include:

• Coordinate design development and management processes across multiple construction projects
• Work closely with architects, engineers and project teams
• Manage the design approval process and ensure all necessary permits and approvals are obtained
• Ensure design work is completed within agreed budgets and timelines
• Monitor design phase progress and ensure timely delivery of design milestones
• Engage with clients, consultants, contractors and key stakeholders
• Organise and attend design review meetings, providing feedback and solutions to potential issues
• Assist with preparation of project reports and presentations
• Proactively manage and identify potential design risks, recommend cost-effective solutions and maintain design integrity
• Work with project teams to resolve conflicts between design and construction teams

To succeed in this design manager job, you'll bring proven experience in construction design management, ideally working on projects valued between £5 million and £10 million.

Essential:

• Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline
• Experience as a Design Manager or similar role within the construction industry
• Strong understanding of design processes, project management techniques and construction methods
• Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple design teams and stakeholders
• Excellent knowledge of design coordination, BIM workflows and technical documentation
• Sound understanding of building regulations, planning requirements and CDM regulations
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to manage design programmes using industry-standard software
• Problem-solving mindset with ability to resolve technical challenges efficiently

Desirable:

• Chartered status (RIBA, ICE, CIOB) or working towards
• Experience working on healthcare, education, commercial or mixed-use construction projects
• Familiarity with RIBA stages and design management protocols
• Proficiency in BIM coordination software, AutoCAD, Revit or similar design tools
• Experience with NEC and JCT contract frameworks
