Our client is an established construction consultancy with over 15 years' experience specialising in cost management, contract administration, and regulatory compliance across the UK. As a RICS-regulated practice, they offer experienced Chartered Senior Quantity Surveyors a diverse workload spanning Education, Healthcare, Commercial, Residential, and Local Authority sectors.

Their Manchester office serves as a regional hub for complex cost planning projects across the North West, working with Tier 1 contractors and blue-chip clients. Role

As a Chartered Senior Quantity Surveyor in Manchester, you'll take full responsibility for traditional quantity surveying duties on multi-million pound construction projects, with a strong focus on measurement, Bills of Quantities, cost planning, and contract administration. This senior QS role suits an experienced RICS-qualified professional with expertise across new build and refurbishment projects within the built environment.

You'll work within a close-knit cost management team, delivering accurate and timely outputs whilst mentoring junior quantity surveyors and supporting business development activities across Greater Manchester and surrounding regions.

Responsibilities

As a Chartered Senior Quantity Surveyor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead quantity surveying duties on construction projects from inception to completion across Education, Healthcare, and Commercial sectors
  • Prepare and manage detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities, schedules of work, and tender documentation under JCT and NEC contracts
  • Provide comprehensive cost advice, budget reporting, and contractual guidance to clients and project teams
  • Conduct cost planning and value engineering exercises to optimise project budgets and delivery programmes
  • Attend design team meetings and progress reviews; liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and consultants
  • Ensure compliance with RICS standards, QA systems, and company procedures for all quantity surveying activities
  • Mentor junior quantity surveyors and assistant QS staff, supporting their professional development and APC progression
  • Maintain strong client relationships across Manchester and identify opportunities for repeat work and business growth
  • Undertake contract administration duties including interim valuations, final accounts, and dispute resolution

The successful Chartered Senior Quantity Surveyor will align with our client's requirements and bring:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Construction-related degree
  • Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) with current membership
  • Minimum 3+ years' post-chartered experience in a senior quantity surveying role within consultancy or contracting
  • Proven track record on new build and refurbishment projects across multiple sectors
  • Technical Skills & Knowledge:
  • Proven ability to produce accurate measured Bills of Quantities, cost estimates, and tender documentation
  • Strong knowledge of UK construction methods, procurement routes, and standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC)
  • Experience with cost planning, value engineering, and contract administration processes
  • Proficient in digital measurement tools (CostX, Bluebeam), MS Office, and construction software applications

Personal Attributes:

  • Confident, detail-oriented, and commercially focused with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience mentoring junior staff and managing project teams
  • Full UK driving licence essential for site visits across Greater Manchester and the North West
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining RICS standards

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Chartered status with other professional institutions (ICE, CIOB)
  • Experience with BIM processes and 5D cost modelling
  • Knowledge of sustainability and carbon cost assessment methodologies
