ASSISTANT SITE MANAGER

Are you an experienced Assistant Site Manager, Site Supervisor or Works Supervisor looking to be part of a landmark construction project in London?

We're recruiting for an Assistant Site Manager to support the delivery of a major new theatre and live entertainment venue in Greenwich.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the opportunity to extend and potential future opportunities across the wider project portfolio. You'll play a key role in supporting construction, fit-out, commissioning, practical completion and the transition into operations on a high-profile development.

CLIENT

Our client is delivering a significant new theatre and live entertainment venue that will become a key destination within London's Greenwich regeneration programme.

They are seeking a capable, organised and proactive Assistant Site Manager to support the Group Site Manager and wider project team throughout the delivery of this fast-paced and technically complex project.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience on a landmark venue project while working alongside an experienced construction and operations team.

ROLE

As an Assistant Site Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of site activities, subcontractors and project coordination throughout the construction and fit-out phases.

Working closely with the Group Site Manager, you'll help maintain safe working practices, monitor progress against programme, coordinate subcontractors and ensure site records and documentation remain accurate and up to date.

This is a hands-on role requiring a practical approach, strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple trades and stakeholders.

You will be involved across all phases of delivery, including construction, fit-out, commissioning, snagging, handover and operational mobilisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Assistant Site Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting day-to-day site supervision and subcontractor coordination.
  • Assisting with site opening, closing and weekend cover where required.
  • Maintaining site standards, welfare facilities, housekeeping and logistics arrangements.
  • Supporting site inductions, toolbox talks, RAMS reviews and permit processes.
  • Monitoring health and safety compliance and promoting safe working practices across the project.
  • Maintaining site records, progress photographs, trackers, reports and action logs.
  • Preparing and updating short-term programme lookaheads using MS Project and other planning tools.
  • Monitoring progress against programme and helping identify potential delays or issues.
  • Supporting coordination between construction, fit-out, MEP, theatre technical, fire and smoke control packages.
  • Tracking snags, defects and outstanding actions through to close-out.
  • Assisting with commissioning activities, practical completion and project handover processes.
  • Supporting the collection and organisation of O&M manuals, training records and project documentation.
  • Using Microsoft 365 and project management systems to maintain accurate project information.
  • Supporting the transition of the venue from construction into operational use.

PERSON

To be successful in this Assistant Site Manager role, you will have previous experience in a site-based supervisory or management position within the construction industry.

You will be a practical, organised and proactive individual who is confident coordinating subcontractors and managing multiple activities within a live project environment.

Candidates from commercial build, commercial fit-out, refurbishment, hospitality, leisure, mixed-use, education, healthcare, data centre or MEP-led project environments are encouraged to apply.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Site Manager, Site Supervisor, Works Supervisor or similar.
  • Good understanding of construction site operations and project delivery.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing day-to-day site activities.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures, RAMS, permits and safe systems of work.
  • Experience maintaining site records, trackers and project documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical information.
  • Experience monitoring project progress and supporting programme delivery.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Experience using MS Project or similar planning software.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to follow actions through to completion and work effectively as part of a wider project team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • SMSTS.
  • Valid CSCS Card (Supervisor or Manager level preferred).
  • 3-Day First Aid at Work.
  • IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • IPAF Licence.
  • CPCS or NPORS Telehandler / Forklift qualification.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor or Temporary Works Awareness.
  • Fire Marshal Training.
  • Asbestos Awareness.
  • Manual Handling Training.
  • Environmental Awareness Training.
  • Experience working on theatre, entertainment venue, hospitality, fit-out or MEP-heavy projects.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, practical completion, snagging, handover or operational mobilisation.

REMUNERATION

Package Includes:

  • Salary up to £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
  • Additional approved hours paid or taken as TOIL.

Working Hours

The base role is 40 paid hours per week over 5 days, including a paid lunch break.

Current site operational hours are:

Monday to Friday: 8:00am to 6:00pm

Saturday: 8:00am to 1:00pm

The position will predominantly support closing shifts and weekend cover where required. Additional approved hours will either be paid at the normal hourly equivalent or taken as TOIL in accordance with the contract.
